Maxine was born into a middle class family in rural midwest - meaning that she'd be considered lower middle class in more metropolitan areaa. Her father, being a TV televangelist, did well with his congregation and with that came a certain level of wealth. However, that wealth was never for funding Maxine's cosmopolitan tastes. Those tastes were seen as sinful and to be denied. Additionally, Maxine dreams of fame. Of being a "fuckin' star". While her desire is to have her name known by everyone, she also wants to use fame to fund her tastes and preferred lifestyle. To do so, Maxine is willing to leave her home and comforts behind, meaning that she currently lives a rather scarce lifestyle in the lower end of the tax bracket while pursuing her dreams. To her, this is a temporary, worthwhile sacrifice because it will lead to the future of fame and wealth she deserves.

A wife and husband in their late 70's/early 80's attempted to kidnap her and killed her five friends (including her boyfriend). The husband died of a heart attack in the assault, and the wife (Pearl) took a shot at Maxine with a shotgun. The shot blew the fragile Pearl back onto the ground, breaking her hip, and Maxine finished her by driving over her head with the wheel of Pearl's own truck.
